Me in a Nutshell
I once had a therapist tell me "you know, Nick, you're not on a very traditional life path." I hadn't thought of it like that before. What kind of life path am I on? I grew up in a good home in the suburbs of Chicago, and attended a summer camp from age 8 onward that is focused on outdoor canoe trips. When I was 16, I was on a 3 week long 500 mile canoe trip that shot a polar bear in self defense. In the fourth grade, I played frosty the snowman in a school play and wrote a poem that won some award. One time in 5th grade, I was given the choice in gym class between zumba and flag football, and all of the boys did football and the girls did zumba. I couldn't choose and ended up crying about it on the floor of the gymnasium. I was often unknowingly dealing with crippling anxiety as a child, and didn't learn to love myself until much later in life. In 6th grade, I accidentally pulled a fire alarm (I lifted up the plastic cover - I thought, if the cover would set the alarm off, there wouldn't need to be an alarm in the first place) My mom didn't understand and I went to see a therapist because of that incident. In 8th grade I played on a rugby team that won the state championship, 3 years after I was offered $100 by my dad to tackle one person in a football game. I couldn't do it. I was the second slowest swimmer on the varsity high school team, and once single handedly ruined my lacrosse team's chance at playing in the state finals. I got suspended from college for financing a drug ring and finished college in 3.5 years because of it. During my time at college, I started a business that ended up raising over $400,000 crowdfunding, called the JoGo Straw. I graduated from college during COVID and the job I had lined up was no longer an option, so I dug in. I worked from my garage and boostrapped the company, with my and my co-founder putting in 1,250 of our own money. I moved to Vail, and he moved to Mexico City. We ran that company together for 5 years, in our best years doing over 250k in revenue. I left the company due to cofounder conflict, and my life kind of fell apart at that time. I put the pieces back together and decided to go and get my MBA. Now I am living in Boston - 27 years old - I want to be a serial entrepruener. I also want to grow my afro back, get bigger biceps, and be a good brother, son, boyfriend, and roommate.
